about series three
Golan Heights:“Golan" is of Semitic origin and refers to the name of a city mentioned in the Bible given to Manasseh in Bashan east of the Jordan River. It was a Levitical city given to the Gershonites (Joshua 21:27; 1 Chronicles 6:71) and became one of the "Cities of Refuge” (Deuteronomy 4:43; Joshua 20:8). Other names used in this context are Gaulan and Jaulan. Over the past century the term “Golan” has been adopted in Israeli culture to refer to the Syrian territory of about 1,250 km2, occupied by Israel.
Today, approximately 200,000 settlers live in more than 30 Jewish-only settlements there. This area has been annexed by Israel, and is under Israeli law, but this is not internationally recognized.
1948: The Golan Heights becomes strategically important, as it is used as a base for artillery attacks on Israel, mostly during wars.
1967: The Golan Heights are occupied by Israel early in the Six-Day War.
1973: For a couple of days during the Yom Kippur War, the Golan Heights are recaptured by Syria.
1975: Syria gets an area around the town of Qunaytirah, as a result of US-led talks after the Yom Kippur War.
1981: The Golan Heights is officially annexed by Menachim Begin’s government. The area is placed under Israeli law, and settlements are established. The annexation is not recognized by the international community.
Beth Shean: Direct disobedience is the cause of the spiritual and political darkness. It is best to follow the policies of the Creator. Israel was command to remove the sinful nature of those living in Canaan from the land which God had given them, but they failed to follow His directions and commands, and even to this day the conflict is still alive. The dispute is still active today.
Saul and his sons were slain and their headless bodies were hung from the walls of this city before its conquest by David. The story of Saul, Israel’s first king begins in 1 Samuel 9 of the details of carelessness and somewhat hopeless man; it is one of the Bibles lengthy biographies. Saul had a promising start; he was anointed by God, given the Holy Spirit, given another heart and was very humble in his early years, but later he allowed two sins to bring him to ruin: he did not keep the commandment of the Lord and he rejected the word of God. Man’s choice in a king became a total failure. He became obsessed trying to kill David and his own son. He brutally murdered God’s priests, consulted with the witch of Endor and finally committed physical suicide.
The only way to spiritual success is drawing you close to the precious word of God and spending time with the Lord.
